The Himalayan Glaciers
The glaciers of the Kumaon region are more important among the glaciers of the Himalayas.
The Gangotri glacier of the Kumaon Himalayas stretches for 39 km. the Zemu glacier in the Eastern Himalayas stretches for 26 km.
Most pothers glaciers in the Himalayas are rather small in area, being on average 6 km. in length. The Ganga River rises from the Gangotri glacier and the tributary of the Teesta, Zemu River rises from the Zemu glacier.
