Festivals in the Villages
Life in the village is dull and monotonous. The festivals in the village are a grand diversion to the villagers. They bring a touch of sunshine to the gloom of their day to day existence and exercise a profound influence on their life.
The most common village festivals are Doljatra, Durga Puja, Diwali or Kali Puja and Saraswati Puja, to name only a few. These festivals supply the villagers with the much wanted fund of joy.
There is much fun and merrymaking during the festivals. They break down barriers between man and man. The barriers are swept away by the bounding tide of a strong religious emotion. Men embrace one another in love and peace. They forget their worries and their dark face shine with a new hope and joy. Alongside the worship the festivals are also accompanied by meals or fairs. They stimulate production and consumption. Thus festivals play a big role in the life of the villagers.
