Pargraph on Train Journey
Trains are the lifeline of millions of Indians. Every day, scores of people commute to their destinations using the services of trains. There wouldn’t be many people in the country who have never had an experience of traveling by train.
However, our human mind is such that we don’t remember all the experiences that we encounter in our lives. Only a few of those memories remain with us that are truly special and worth remembering.
I had the good fortune of having experienced one such memorable train journey. It was in the summer of 2002. I had to travel to Hyderabad from Kolkata. I had never travelled to South India before and was naturally excited about the journey.
The train was on time, and I took my rightful seat in the compartment allotted to me. Since the journey was going to be long, I decided to make the most of it and took out the latest English novel that I had purchased at the platform. After a while, the train gained speed, and a cool breeze started blowing against my cheeks.
The scenic beauty of West Bengal seemed to be at its peak, and I was really lucky to be witnessing it in front of my eyes. Soon, the train entered Orissa. I had traveled to Orissa before but did not have the opportunity to explore it. However, I was not going to let the chance pass me by again. By now, the train was crossing Chilika Lake. The country’s largest freshwater lake was right below and looked absolutely mesmerizing. It was really a sight to behold.
The train reached Hyderabad by 2:00 PM in the afternoon. The entire journey took around 36 hours but felt like minutes to me. The vivid images of the beautiful scenes that I saw during the journey are still afresh in my memory.
