Janmashtami is a famous Hindu festival that is celebrated with great enthusiasm in India. This day commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna.

• Janmashtami is also known as Krishna Janmashtami, Krishnashtami, and Sri Krishna Jayanti.
• This festival has a special significance for Hindus as it marks the birthday of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Lord Krishna was born at midnight on this day.
• Birth of Lord Krishna indicates the end of the evil and cruel.
• The devotees of Lord Krishna fast the whole day to celebrate and spend the day worshipping him.
• Hindu temples are decorated in the name of Lord Krishna with palkis and small statues of Krishna.
• On this day the temples are filled with the chants by the priest and thousands of people praying in the name of Lord Krishna.
• The event of DahiHandi is also popularly celebrated in Maharashtra on this day. In this event people form a human pyramid to reach an earthen pot that is filled with buttermilk and tied some feet above the ground, to break it.
• Dwarka that is known as Krishna’s land celebrates Janmashtami with great devotion.
