My Favorite Hill Station
Escape to the hills to enjoy a calm and serene beauty of nature
I visit a hill station every summer to experience the fresh air and take rest far away from the city. My favorite Hill Station is Ooty famously known as the ‘Queen of the Hill Stations’. Ooty is one of the attractive hill stations in south India. I love the mountains, green valleys, and tall pines in Ooty.
Climate
The highest temperatures range from 17-20 degree Celsius and the average low is between 5 to 12 degree Celsius. Rainy days in Ooty are cool with high humidity.
Places of Interest
As I traveled through the hills the wild bushes and silence hemmed me in. Small wildflowers decorated the hillsides and variety of tall trees covered the hills. These are some of the places of interest I visited in Ooty.
- Ooty Lake – It is a lively tourist spot and stretches around 2.5km hedged by tall trees. The boathouse was established in 1824 by John Sullivan, the first collector of Ooty. We can choose pedal boats or motor boats according to our comfort.
- Botanical garden – Trees, shrubs, and flowers in the garden were a feast to my eye. Flower shows are organized in the summer to attract the tourists. This oldest botanical garden has a variety of floral collections.
- Toy train – It is available from Mettupalayam to Ooty and is given World Heritage Status by UNESCO.
Ooty’s serene lakes, tea plantation views, distinct colonial charm makes me sink in nature’s lap.
