Indira Gandhi also known as “the Iron lady” was the former Prime Minister who was born in 19th November 1917, at Allahabad. She was the daughter of Kamala Nehru and Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India. Being from a political background, she was exposed to politics from her childhood.
Despite her marriage and two kids she moved from Allahabad to Delhi with her father to lend him a hand in politics. In 1959 she was elected as a political advisor of her father. Later after his death, she was designated to be the in-charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
In 1966, after the death of the then Prime Minister Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri, she was elected as the Prime Minister. During her lifetime she inspired several women by breaking the stereotype that women cannot run a country. She was assassinated on October 31st 1984 when she was on her way for an interview.
